DASEIN CONFRONTED WITH HIS OWN POSSIBILITY: FROM THROWNNESS TO AUTHENTICITY IN HEIDEGGER
Abstract: Our inquiry focuses on the transition from the factitious, dispersed existence of everyday life to a more authentic way of embracing one’s being—one’s being-with, being-in-the-world, and being-towards-death. How, then, can the Dasein that I am become itself when it finds itself immediately engaged in an existence it did not choose? Yet, the fact of being « thrown » there does not mean that Dasein is reduced to passively undergoing its existence. Similarly, the inauthenticity of Dasein—which should not be reduced to a moral failing—belongs to the metaphysical realm; it consists not in erasing what has been given, but in lucidly reclaiming the possibilities that this situation leaves open. Through anxiety, the call of conscience, anticipatory resoluteness, and being-towards-death, Dasein is thus led back to its own possibilities, without this reclamation erasing its facticity.

POPULAR IVORIAN FRENCH AND NOUCHI : AN OVERLOOKED EDUCATIONAL RESOURCE?
Abstract : Among the factors contributing to academic failure, the language of instruction ranks prominently. By imposing standardized French as the sole medium of instruction since independence, the Ivorian education system has regarded other varieties of French as “incorrect forms” to be eliminated. As a result, a significant proportion of school-age youth, who commonly use speech varieties that differ markedly from standardized French, find themselves excluded and confronted with difficulties in school integration. However, teachers can encourage students to express an idea in their spontaneous linguistic register and then work collectively to reformulate it in standard French, explicitly highlighting the lexical, syntactic, and phonetic differences between the two registers. In this way, a pedagogy of contrastive transition, grounded in Popular French and Nouchi, could serve as a complementary lever for enhancing the effectiveness and success of the education system in Côte d’Ivoire.

Abstract: International migration is a multidimensional social phenomenon that cannot be adequately understood through a single explanatory theory. The migration literature has generated a broad range of perspectives, including Push–Pull Theory, Neoclassical Migration Theory, the New Economics of Labour Migration, Dual Labour Market Theory, Migration Network Theory, cumulative causation, and more recent approaches cantered on aspirations and capabilities. Although these approaches have substantially enriched migration scholarship, they often emphasize different levels of analysis and explanatory mechanisms, ranging from individual economic calculation to household risk diversification, structural labour demand, social networks, and broader processes of social transformation. The resulting fragmentation creates an important theoretical problem: economic incentives may explain why migration appears rational, structural theories may explain why destination economies demand migrant labour, and network approaches may explain how migration becomes socially reproduced, but these perspectives do not always adequately account for how objective conditions are subjectively interpreted and transformed into migration aspirations under conditions of uneven capability and constraint.
This article addresses that problem by proposing the Sociological Migration Aspiration and Constraint Framework (SMACF). Building on the cumulative insights of established theories, particularly Everett Lee’s emphasis on personal perception and intervening obstacles, Carling’s distinction between aspiration and ability, and de Haas’s aspirations–capabilities framework, SMACF places the social interpretation of structural conditions at the centre of the migration process. The framework argues that structural conditions do not mechanically produce migration. Rather, individuals and households interpret economic, political, social, cultural, and institutional circumstances through socially embedded frames of reference. These interpretations shape aspirations, while resources, institutions, migration policies, networks, and inequalities condition the ability to transform aspirations into actual mobility. The article applies this theoretical synthesis to immigration to the United Kingdom and argues that British immigration cannot be sufficiently understood through labour-market demand, income differentials, household strategies, or migrant networks alone. Instead, migration emerges from the interaction between structural conditions, socially formed aspirations, capabilities, opportunities, and constraints. SMACF therefore seeks to provide an integrative sociological framework capable of linking macro-structural forces, meso-level social relations, and micro-level aspirations and decision-making.

VISUAL ANALYSIS OF ‘BURKINA FASO : SOLHAN’ BY TONAKPO
A : Political caricature is one of the most effective forms of critical discourse in the public sphere. By condensing a political or social event into a few visual, iconic, and linguistic signs, it offers a representation with a high argumentative density. It doesn’t just reproduce current events: it selects, distorts, tightens, and interprets them to provide a perspective on reality. This article offers a semiotic analysis of the caricature « Burkina Faso : Solhan, » created by the Burkinabe cartoonist Tonakpo in the context of the Solhan massacre on June 4-5, 2021. The analysis mainly relies on the work of Groupe µ in visual semiotics and on Peirce’s typology of signs. It examines in turn the iconic, visual, and linguistic dimensions of the image before looking at how they work together to construct a political discourse. It emerges that the cartoon sets up a contrast between a population exposed to violence and a government depicted in a posture of comfort, distance, and inaction. The contrast between the tragedy shown, the political promise, and the “72-hour Mourning” creates a critique of the institutional response, seen as mostly symbolic in the face of a demand for real protection. The cartoon thus works as a visual counter-discourse that questions the government’s responsibility and deconstructs the mythified image of the state as the absolute guarantor of citizens’ security.

Feminism in Modern Baoulé Song: Reflections on Marriage Based on Abidjan Adja (Antoinette Konan), Apindrin (Tigresse Sidonie), and Ton Pied Mon Pied (N’Guess Bon Sens)
Abstract : The issue of marriage and more specifically, the situation of married women is the subject of particular treatment by artists specializing in Baoulé song, such as Antoinette Konan, Sidonie la Tigresse and N’Guess Bon Sens. How do these artists approach the situation of married women in their musical works? How do their positions align with the concerns and demands of feminist movements? These are the main concerns to which we attempt to respond through this study. Our objective is to analyze the music of the aforementioned artists in order to understand their stance and approach to the situation of married women in Africa. To do this, our work is based on a corpus of 3 musical pieces, namely, Abidjan Adja (Antoinette Konan), Apindrin (Sidonie la Tigresse) and Ton Pied mon Pied (N’Guess Bon Sens). Our work shows that on the issue of marriage, these artists highlight the suffering and unease of some women in their homes. By denouncing the injustices they suffer, they raise awareness, propose solutions, and thus contribute to feminist struggles.
Keywords: Baoulé song, feminism, artists, marriage, injustices.

PRAGMATIC ORALITY AND THE SPEECH ACT: FROM THE TRAINING WORKSHOP TO A DIDACTICS OF THE IMPLICIT
Abstract: Drawing on a critical review of the literature in oral didactics and linguistic pragmatics, we examine the potential of the instructional design framework, specifically that of the training workshop. By drawing on the theoretical frameworks of Austin, Grice, and Kerbrat-Orecchioni, we propose to identify how this approach, which has been tested for pragmatic speaking in general, can be theoretically adapted to address a topic as specific as conversational implicitness. The analysis conducted leads to a breakdown of conversational implicitness, subject to the existence of a unified conceptual framework, and reveals the articulation of the genre-based sequence model with a phase of metapragmatic verbalization. This conceptual framework, while not claiming any empirical validation.

Abstract: In Togo, when we talk about architecture, we think of Mr. Da Silva as having been the first Togolese architect. Indeed, his grandfather Da Silva Jacintho worked on the construction of the first religious buildings in Togo and Benin. While it can be said that Mr. Da Silva followed in his grandfather’s footsteps and left his mark on the landscape of Lomé by constructing a number of important buildings, other lesser-known architects also left their mark on the landscape of Lomé through their architectural expertise. This is the case of Father Joseph Fürst of the Society of African Missions (SMA) in Lyon. He built numerous school and religious buildings and was one of the pioneers of architecture in Togo. This raises the question: who was Father Joseph Fürst and what was his architectural expertise in Togo from 1934 to 1965? The methodology used to answer this question consisted of a comprehensive compilation of writings on the subject, such as those by K. Müller (1968) and J. Gass (1998). Electronic and archival sources were also useful. The study aims to understand RP Joseph Fürst’s career through both his parish ministry and his expertise in architecture. In view of the specific objectives and results obtained, the aim is first to show the birth and ecclesiastical career of RP Joseph Fürst and then to recall his expertise in architecture.

A SEMIOTIC AND EXEGETICAL READING OF MATTHEW’S PARABOLIC DISCOURSE AND ITS RECEPTION IN THE EVANGELICAL CHURCHES OF BURKINA FASO
Abstract : In the evangelical churches of Burkina Faso, Jesus’ parables, though frequently preached, are read in a largely moralising way that impoverishes their scope. Between 70 and 85 % of the interpretations surveyed reduce the parable to a lesson in individual conduct, revealing a striking gap between the narrative and theological richness of these texts and their actual reception; hence the question of how the Matthean parables articulate narrative structures, semiotic signs and exegetical contexts in conveying the message of the Kingdom of Heaven. The study combines Greimasian narrative semiotics (the actantial model, the canonical sequence, isotopies and the semiotic square) with historical-critical exegesis, applied to four parables (the Sower, the Tares, the Labourers in the Vineyard and the Ten Virgins), and draws on a field survey of fifty church actors in five churches of Koudougou and Ouagadougou. The analysis uncovers convergent narrative structures organised around the paradox of the Kingdom (‘already’ and ‘not yet’), an implicit Christology and an ecclesiology of discernment; the survey confirms the prevalence of moral readings and attributes it not to any incapacity of the actors but to a deficit of hermeneutical training. The study leads to concrete pedagogical and pastoral proposals.

ASSESSING ORAL FLUENCY OF EFL STUDENTS AT THE UNIVERSITY OF KINSHASA
Abstract: This study investigated the assessment of the oral English fluency of English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learners at the University of Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo. The research was motivated by the persistent difficulties experienced by university students in communicating effectively in spoken English despite several years of formal instruction. Specifically, the study sought to determine the learners’ oral fluency level, identify the linguistic and affective factors influencing their speaking performance, examine the role of pronunciation and listening comprehension, and propose strategies for enhancing oral fluency. The study adopted a concurrent mixed-methods research design integrating quantitative and qualitative approaches. A total of 65 third-year undergraduate students participated in the survey, while 15 students were purposively selected among the survey participants for semi-structured oral interviews. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire and an adapted Oral Proficiency Test based on the IELTS Speaking Band Descriptors for the interview. Quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, whereas qualitative data were examined through the IELTS Speaking Band Descriptors and triangulated with the survey findings. The findings revealed that the overall oral fluency of the participants was relatively low. The majority of students reported poor speaking ability, slow speech production, and frequent hesitation. The interview data confirmed these perceptions by revealing prolonged pauses, self-corrections, fragmented responses, limited lexical variety, and recurrent grammatical inaccuracies. The participants obtained an average IELTS-equivalent speaking score of approximately Band 5, indicating that they were modest users of English who could communicate basic meanings but struggled to maintain fluent and spontaneous interaction.

Abstract: African literature has played a pivotal role in decolonial resistance and cultural reclamation by challenging colonial narratives, preserving indigenous knowledge, and asserting African identities. Through novels, poetry, drama, and oral traditions, African writers have resisted epistemic domination, critiqued colonial legacies, and reimagined histories from African perspectives. Authors such as Ngũgĩ wa Thiong’o, Chinua Achebe, Mariama Bâ, and Tsitsi Dangarembga have used literature as a tool for cultural reclamation, exposing the impact of colonialism while reaffirming the richness of African traditions, languages, and philosophies. Postcolonial literary movements have emphasized the need to deconstruct Eurocentric frameworks and revitalize African linguistic and storytelling traditions. Furthermore, contemporary African writers continue this struggle by addressing neo-colonial structures, globalization, and identity politics. Delving into decoloniality as a theory, this paper explores the role of African literature in resisting colonial hegemonies, reclaiming cultural heritage, and shaping decolonial discourse. It argues that literature is not merely a form of artistic expression but a powerful site of resistance, education, and intellectual sovereignty in the ongoing quest for true decolonization.

JACINTO OCTAVIO PICÓN (1852-1923), PREFACE WRITER IN RESTORATION SPAIN
Abstract : After his death in 1923, Jacinto Octavio Picón—a Spanish writer active during the second half of the 19th century—was described as a minor writer of the Restoration era (1875-1902), alongside figures such as José Ortega Munilla and Father Luis Coloma. This article highlights the fact that Picón—a writer, journalist, and critic of both literature and art—was a renowned and respected intellectual and academician in his day. He authored prefaces for numerous books by his contemporaries—including novels, plays, poetry collections, short stories, memoirs, historical and journalistic chronicles, and miscellanies—by authors such as Lorenzo Coria, Alejandro Larrubiera, Román Cortés, Ramos Carrión, Salvador Canals, the Álvarez Quintero brothers, Rodríguez Pinilla, Fernández Villegas, Emilio Rancés, and the Marquis Álvarez de Estrada, etc. which attests to his renown and the recognition he enjoyed within the socio-cultural milieu of the time. Beyond demonstrating Picón’s stature as a celebrated writer and academician of the Restoration, the article also uses these prefaces to underscore the erudition and eclecticism of the literary criticism he produced during the transition from the late 19th to the early 20th century.

POETIQUE DU PANEGYRIQUE DES GROUPES SOCIAUX MOOSE : CAS DES SÃABA, DES TÃN-SOABA ET DES ZAMSE

Abstract : Panegyric occupies a big place in the broad field of Moaaga oral literature. As a genre rich in stylistic and symbolic elements, it primarily serves as a channel through which social groups express themselves. This article aims to show how Moaaga social groups construct and express their collective identity through poetic, linguistic, and symbolic devices and resources. The study focuses on three social groups within the Moogo: the Sãaba (blacksmiths), the Poese (diviners), and the Zamse (elite warriors). The study is grounded in the theoretical framework of poetics, understood as the analysis of formal and aesthetic devices involved in meaning-making in oral texts. Methodologically, the analysis draws on a corpus of panegyrics extracted from songs collected from a traditional artist and a group of women, following an ethnolinguistic approach. The findings demonstrate that, through its stylistic features, panegyric constitutes a subtle means by which the Moose construct, assert, and valorize the collective identity of their social groups.

BOOK, LIBRARY, LIBRARY ECONOMY, LIBRARY SCIENCE, AND COPYRIGHT IN THE DIGITAL AG
Abstract: A book represents the mastery and transmission of knowledge and learning accumulated by its author. It can also serve as a context for narrative creation within a narratological framework. Classified scientifically as a « documentary » item, the book is utilized within the library setting—an environment that has given rise to disciplines such as librarianship (its practical field) and library science (its scientific field). The use of books in libraries also hinges on respect for copyright; bibliographic references uphold the integrity of the author’s intellectual legacy, thereby fully justifying the exercise of their rights. Establishing the framework of library science also requires leveraging three types of library models: the material library, the dematerialized library, and the immaterial library. Furthermore, this text highlights the figure of the elderly person as both a repository of the past and an interactive library. This reflection draws upon an address delivered in Djibouti before President Ismaïl Omar Guelleh during the 2018 celebration of World Book and Copyright Day.

AFRICANOLOGY BY HIS COUNTRY’S FIRST ARCHIVIST: A CASE STUDY OF PRESIDENT OMAR GUELLEH OF THE REPUBLIC OF DJIBOUTI
Abstract: Africanology is the discipline dedicated to the study and research of Africa across three dimensions: pre-colonial, colonial, and post-colonial Africa. It also highlights the interdisciplinary approach used to examine events and phenomena on the continent of the Pharaohs. It is within this framework that we have constructed a corpus regarding post-colonial Africa, grounded in archival science and the study of archives, linked with political science. Archives are the soul of the establishment; consequently, they function through two forms of traceability: managerial and historiographical. While often associated with the work of historians, archives originate primarily from two spheres: politics and religion. We have thus demonstrated that the Head of State—particularly in an African context—serves as the country’s chief archivist, given that, as the first citizen, he manages the nation’s comprehensive information. In this capacity, the National Archives serve as an essential tool for the Head of State in managing the country’s collective memory. This explains why President Ismaïl Omar Guelleh (IOG) was so committed to establishing the National Archives service for the Republic of Djibouti. Ultimately, such studies concerning archives in Africa form an integral part of Africanological discourse.

Election of Pope Leo XIV and reactions from Presidents Donald Trump, José Enrique Jerí Oré, and Felix-Antoine Tshisekedi: Perspectives from Theology, Political Science, and Communication Studies
Abstract: On May 8, 2025, Robert François Prevost was elected Pope and chose the pontifical name Leo XIV. Following the appearance of white smoke at 6:08 PM from the Sistine Chapel, this historic election—taking place on just the second day of the conclave—became a global news story and elicited reactions, particularly from heads of state. The new Pope holds dual nationality: American by birth and Peruvian by naturalization. For the purposes of this article, the selection of three specific presidents shaped the framework of our analysis. These include Donald John Trump, who expressed pride in seeing an American become head of the Roman Catholic Church; José Enrique Jerí Oré of Peru, the president in office during the election; and finally, Felix-Antoine Tshisekedi, chosen because his country—the Democratic Republic of the Congo—is of particular interest to the Pontiff, who advocates for its pacification.

A Criminological Approach to Children Apprehended in Industrial Mining Concessions in the City of Kolwezi: Between Repression and Compliance Challenges with International Standards.
Abstract: Since the expansion of the mining sector in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, a significant number of investors have turned to the Haut-Katanga and Lualaba provinces, drawn by their vast open-pit deposits and subsoil rich in diverse mineral resources. The revision of the Mining Code on March 9, 2018, was enacted to address new socio-economic realities, regulate investor activities, and clarify the social and environmental responsibilities of mining companies toward communities affected by their projects. Conditions on the ground reveal that the city of Kolwezi, located in the heart of Lualaba province, is home to several mining industry giants engaged in mineral extraction. While this sector remains central to the city’s economy, it also generates a vast number of legal disputes regarding mining-related offenses and gives rise to a concerning humanitarian issue: the increasing involvement of children under the age of 18 in industrial mining concessions. Indeed, records from the Public Prosecutor’s Office regarding children in conflict with the law indicate that, between January and July 2026, over 20% of the children prosecuted were charged with the theft or attempted theft of minerals. Furthermore, an in-depth analysis of the reasons for their detention reveals the inadequacy of a purely judicial response—even though legal proceedings are regularly initiated by judicial police officers or public prosecutors specializing in juvenile cases, in accordance with Law No. 09/001 of January 10, 2009, on child protection. However, it is worth noting that most of the children found in these mining areas—who are largely out of school and marginalized—engage in this activity as a means of survival amidst precarious living conditions. Accordingly, this study employs a mixed-methods approach—combining quantitative analysis and interviews—to examine, on the one hand, the paradox between the imperative of a punitive approach and the need to comply with international standards, and on the other, the socio-political causes driving juvenile delinquency in extractive zones.

INTRODUCTION ET DÉVELOPPEMENT DES CÉRÉALES AU CONGO BELGE : IMPACT SUR L’AGRICULTURE LOCALE

INTRODUCTION AND DEVELOPPEMENT OF CEREALS IN THE BELGIAN CONGO: IMPACT ON LOCAL AGRICULTURE.
Abstract : This text examines the introduction, development of cereal cultivation, and its effects on agriculture in the Belgian Congo. It demonstrates that cereal cultivation, particularly maize and rice, was not actually introduced by the Belgians, as is often believed by the general public. Cereal cultivation already existed in certain regions of the Congo before colonization. However, the colonial period mainly promoted its expansion, administrative and scientific supervision, and integration into the market economy. Before colonization, Congolese agriculture was already diversified and adapted to different natural environments. From 1908 onwards, the Belgian administration gradually reorganized this activity in order to increase production, supply cities and mining centers, and develop commercial exchanges. It promoted the modernization of agricultural techniques, agronomic research, diversification, and integration into markets. However, these positive effects were also accompanied by negative consequences, such as constraints, administrative control, and priority given to colonial economic interests.

Abstract : The works of Jacques Boureima Guégané (1971-2025) suffer from limited recognition and are rarely cited in anthologies despite his pioneering role. This situation raises the question of his aesthetic positioning, particularly regarding Negritude and the demands of Burkinabè literary nationalism. Studying Guégané’s works is essential to understanding how post-independence poetry manages the oral heritage and the transition to writing. Consequently, we must ask: how does the poetic writing of Jacques Boureima Guégané, often perceived as unclassable or even « silent, » manage to achieve an aesthetic renewal by transcribing and theatricalizing the forms of African oral tradition ? What are the precise mechanisms through which Guégané integrates the performative structures and generic codes of orality (song, tale, epic) into his written texts, and how does this latent theatricality redefine his positioning as a figure of innovation in African poetry? Therefore, it is relevant to demonstrate that Guégané’s low visibility is due less to indifference than to profound aesthetic innovation. Likewise, his writing confers on his work both a performative and dramaturgical character that requires a new reading to reassess his major place in African poetry. Guégané’s poetic work achieves an innovative synthesis by converging a deeply rooted oral tradition (via immemorial speech) with a modernity of writing that gives his poems a powerful implicit theatricality. This dynamic (tradition/innovation, orality/scenicity) is the key to explaining his absence from anthologies through his rejection of militant eloquence in favor of restrained speech. Our analysis will be conducted in three stages, ensuring the articulation between oral heritage and scenic potential: Oral Tradition as a Matrix, Scenic Innovation, and Synthesis and Redefinition of the Field. This work will rely on the concepts of Literary Sociocriticism to contextualize the author’s « silence » in the face of official discourses, and on the Dramaturgy of oral forms and Intermediality to model the transition from performative discourse to the scenic text-score.

FROM EXCEPTIONAL RECRUITMENT MEASURES TO THE PROFESSIONAL INCLUSION OF DEAF AND HARD-OF-HEARING PEOPLE IN CÔTE D’IVOIRE’S CIVIL SERVICE
Abstract : This article examines the special recruitment scheme for persons with disabilities in the Ivorian civil service, with particular attention to Deaf and hard-of-hearing people. Established as a specific pathway to public-sector employment, the scheme aims to reduce the inequalities that people with disabilities continue to face in standard recruitment procedures. The study draws on an analysis of Côte d’Ivoire’s legal and institutional framework, complemented by data collected from stakeholders involved in implementing the scheme and from beneficiaries. It examines recruitment procedures, recent changes in the process, and the conditions of professional integration and career advancement following appointment. The analysis identifies several advances, including the institutionalization of a specific pathway into civil service, the progressive digitalization of the recruitment process since 2024, and the introduction of accessibility measures in certain administrative training programmes. However, significant challenges remain, particularly regarding candidates’ levels of qualification, linguistic and communication accessibility, post-recruitment support, access to continuing professional development, and opportunities for career advancement. For Deaf and hard-of-hearing people, these constraints are closely linked to educational and linguistic inequalities that arise before entry into employment. The study therefore distinguishes access to employment from effective professional inclusion. While the special recruitment scheme constitutes an important mechanism for addressing inequalities in access to the civil service, its long-term effectiveness depends on its articulation with inclusive education, accessible working environments, professional training, and career management. The Ivorian experience thus provides useful insights for the development of more inclusive public policies on the employment of persons with disabilities.

Abstract : This study aims to reflect on the language used to produce Ivorian literature. The article presents an original literary output characterized by the coexistence of two variations of Ivorian French: standard French (the model taught in schools) and a form of Ivorian French where—upon analysis—the two levels of variation (Nouchi and Popular Ivorian French [FPI]) appear to merge into a single variety. Because they share nearly identical syntactic regularities, they coalesce into a unified « Nouchi » that ultimately encompasses all forms of hybrid Ivorian speech. Writer Josué Guébo’s objective here is to promote Ivorian French—outside the formal school system—within a domain as prestigious as literature. To achieve this, we employed a documentary research methodology to analyze the Ivorian French found in this poetic work. The study is divided into three parts: first, a brief overview of translingual literature; second, an analysis of Josué Guébo’s specific literary output; and finally, the practical implications arising from this linguistic interplay.

3D ANIMATION IN THE SERVICE OF PRESERVING, PROMOTING, AND ENHANCING AFRICAN HISTORICAL STORIES: THE CONTRIBUTION OF AFRIKATOON FILMS
Abstract : This study aims to analyse the contribution of 3D animated films produced by Afrikatoon (an Ivorian 2D/3D animation studio) to the preservation, promotion and celebration of African historical narratives. A qualitative methodology was adopted. The data, collected between January and March 2026 from ten (10) key informants through semi-structured individual interviews, were analysed using content analysis. The results indicate that the preservation of African historical narratives takes the form of their reconstruction through Afrikatoon’s 3D animated films, as well as the archiving of these films on digital platforms. As for the promotion of these narratives, this is achieved through the distribution of these films on various digital platforms, as well as through preview screenings and screenings at various festivals. As for their enhancement, this is achieved not only through promotion but also by bringing them to life on screen through the director’s African perspective and the prominent role given to iconic African figures in Afrikatoon’s 3D animated films.

MICROFINANCE SERVICES AND INFORMAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP IN LIMETE MUNICIPALITY, KINSHASA: AN OVERVIEW AND PROSPECTS FOR FORMALIZATION
ABSTRACT : This article examines the relationship between microfinance services and entrepreneurial informality in the municipality of Limete, Kinshasa. It focuses on the extent to which credit, savings, financial education, and digital financial services can contribute to the gradual formalization of informal microenterprises. The study adopts a descriptive and analytical approach based on a field survey of microentrepreneurs in Limete. It analyzes entrepreneurs’ access to microfinance services, the use of financing obtained, the main obstacles to formalization, and the measures that could facilitate the transition toward the formal economy. The study argues that microfinance can contribute to the development and professionalization of informal businesses by improving their access to financial resources and strengthening their management capacities. However, access to finance alone is not sufficient to ensure formalization. High formalization costs, negative perceptions of taxation, lack of information, administrative complexity, and weak internal business structures remain significant barriers. The study therefore recommends an integrated approach combining access to finance, financial and tax education, entrepreneurial support, digitalization, and simplified formalization procedures. Such an approach could strengthen the sustainability of microenterprises and facilitate their gradual integration into the formal economy.

ON-SITE CONSULTATION AS THE SOLE FORM OF READING PRACTICE: AN ANALYSIS OF DOCUMENT USAGE IN THE UNIVERSITY OF KINSHASA FACULTY LIBRARIES
Abstract: This article examines documentary uses in the faculty libraries of the University of Kinshasa (UNIKIN), highlighting a singular phenomenon: on-site consultation constitutes the quasi-exclusive form of what we call « lecturality, » understood as the set of social, material, and symbolic conditions that make the act of reading possible within a given institution. Based on a field survey of 320 students and 12 librarians, supplemented by documentary analysis and 60 hours of direct observation, the study shows that this configuration results from a convergence of structural constraints: shortage of books, absence of a functional lending service, institutional mistrust of document circulation, and the predominance of an infrastructure function over a documentary function. The results reveal that on-site consultation is not an epistemic choice but a constrained adaptation, generating fragmented, utilitarian reading practices oriented toward immediate academic production. The article argues for reconfiguring faculty libraries into documentary mediation spaces articulating on-site consultation, controlled lending, and digital access.

FROM AID BENEFICIARY STATUS TO THAT OF AN ECONOMIC ACTOR: A PROPOSED ENTREPRENEURIAL MENTORING MODEL FOR CARITAS DÉVELOPPEMENT TSHUMBE
Abstract : This study examines ways of complementing assistance to vulnerable populations with support aimed at promoting economic empowerment. It focuses on 75 beneficiaries of Caritas Développement Tshumbe, surveyed in 2026 after having received assistance between 2015 and 2025. The results show that 74.7% have practical skills, 84.0% are willing to undertake vocational training, 88.0% are interested in starting an economic activity, and 90.7% wish to reduce their dependence on aid. Furthermore, 88.0% consider entrepreneurial mentoring useful or very useful. However, these findings do not allow any causal effect of mentoring to be established, as it has not yet been implemented among the beneficiaries. The study therefore proposes the AIME-C model (Assistance – Identification – Mentoring – Economic Empowerment – Consolidation), whose five structural components are operationalized through nine successive stages, ranging from protective assistance to economic empowerment and consolidation of the activity. The model aims to progressively facilitate the transition from beneficiary status to that of an economic actor.

ABSTRACT: In Africa, attention is increasingly focused on regional integration as a strategy for achieving sustainable economic growth, given the consensus that by pooling its capabilities and resources and mobilizing its energies, the continent will be able to overcome the formidable development challenges it faces. It is within this framework that COMESA aims to be a fully integrated regional economic community, competitive on an international scale and characterized by economic prosperity—a cornerstone ready for the African Economic Community. COMESA aims to achieve sustained growth in investment, improve the tax base and increase tax revenues, enhance infrastructure (roads, ICT, transportation, etc.), and boost employment in the region. Thus, to attract investment to its region, COMESA employs a policy based on: developing strategies to promote investment; establishing standards for the treatment of investors and investments; implementing specific investment promotion programs; and signing international multilateral agreements. According to available data and reports, the COMESA region was fairly successful in attracting investment during the 2016–2018 period, with the average annual total stock of investment amounting to 22 percent of GDP. COMESA’s stock of inward foreign direct investment (FDI) stood at $293.9 billion in 2017, up from $44.3 billion in 2000, reflecting a sustained increase in investment. In this regard, to attract foreign direct investment and intra-African investment to member countries, COMESA was designated a Common Investment Area (CIA), and a Regional Investment Agency was established.
